Eden setup on Android handhelds: first boot to per-game tuning

Last verified · Overclocked guides

Set up the Eden Switch emulator legally on your handheld: dump from your own console, controller mapping, GPU driver manager, per-game settings and mods.

Eden is the most active Switch emulator on Android, with stable and Nightly channels. Here's a clean setup that's easy to tune later.

Before you start: what you need (legally)

Step-by-step

  1. Install Eden from the official Eden project site. Stable is the safe pick; Nightly gets fixes first.
  2. Open it, accept the disclaimers and allow notifications.
  3. Keys: in the first-run setup, choose Select Keys and pick your prod.keys. Later you can use ⚙ Settings → Manage data → Install prod.keys. Fully close and reopen Eden afterwards.
  4. Firmware: choose Select/Install Firmware and pick the firmware archive you dumped. Leave it zipped.
  5. Games: Add Games → choose the folder with your own dumps.
  6. Controls: ⚙ → Controls → Player 1 → controller type Handheld → pick your device under the input mapping filter. Remap the sticks carefully.
  7. Driver: ⚙ → GPU driver manager → Fetch, or Install a package (which driver?).
  8. Baseline graphics: resolution 0.75x (865) or 1x (7xx/8xx), accuracy Normal, ASTC GPU, VSync FIFO, disk shader cache on, CPU backend NCE.

Per-game tuning (where the magic is)

  1. Long-press a game → settings. These override the globals for that game only.
  2. Change one setting per test session: driver → resolution → async shaders → docked/handheld.
  3. Some games want Docked mode for higher internal resolution; others run smoother in Handheld.
  4. Mods: long-press → Add-ons → Install, then select the folder above the cheats/romfs/exefs folders.

Power and heat

Switch emulation is the hardest thing these devices do. Use the handheld's High performance mode with fan on Smart or Sport for demanding games. Use Performance mode for lighter ones to save battery.
