AYN Odin 3 Portal specs confirmed: Dragonwing Q8, a 9,000mAh battery and a 450g body
A week after teasing it, AYN has started filling in the blanks on the Odin 3 Portal, the follow-up to the Odin 2 Portal. In a new trailer on its YouTube channel, the company confirmed the chip, the battery and the controls, and gave a target weight. It has not said anything about price, the display or when orders open.
What AYN has confirmed
- Chip: Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8, the same silicon as the Odin 3. It is essentially a Snapdragon 8 Elite without the cellular modem, with eight Oryon CPU cores and an Adreno 830 GPU.
- Battery: 9,000mAh, up from the 8,000mAh in the Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal.
- Cooling: active, with a fan that AYN describes as quiet.
- Controls: full-size Hall effect sticks, analog triggers and rear paddle buttons.
- Glass: AG (anti-glare) glass with fingerprint resistance.
- Weight: around 450g, compared with about 390g for the smaller Odin 3.
What we still don't know
Screen size, panel type and resolution, RAM and storage options, price and release timing have not been announced. Android Authority expects it to cost more than the Odin 3, but that is a guess. AYN hasn't given a figure. Treat any numbers you see elsewhere as rumours until AYN publishes them.
Why it matters for handheld players
Keeping the Dragonwing Q8 is good news if you care about emulator setup. Everything the community has worked out on the Odin 3 should carry straight over: the Adreno 8xx Turnip builds, Eden and Winlator settings, and PS2 and 3DS configs. The bigger battery should help with longer Switch and PC-game sessions, which drain an 8 Elite-class chip fastest. Settings shared by Odin 3 owners are a good starting point, and the GPU driver hub lists every Adreno 8xx driver project. We'll add the Odin 3 Portal to the device catalog once AYN publishes full specs.
AYN's video was also covered by Notebookcheck and iXBT Games. The specs above are the ones AYN itself has shown.
