Tekken 6 now runs natively on Windows handhelds, with rollback netcode and Tekken 8-style practice tools

Tekken 6 came out on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009 and never got an official PC version. A fan project called Tekken 6 Native Online now fills that gap. It runs the Xbox 360 version natively on Windows through static recompilation, so there's no emulator running underneath, and it adds something the original never had: rollback netcode for online matches.

How it works

The download doesn't include any part of the game. You point the launcher at a disc image of your own copy, and it checks the image, copies the game data and recompiles the game's code on your own PC. The README says that takes about 3 to 10 minutes depending on your CPU. Only the USA/Europe Rev 1 release is accepted, and you need about 10 GB of free space.

Requirements

Online play and what's new

Online matches use GGPO-style rollback, which copes with lag much better than traditional delay-based netcode. The launcher handles login (guest play works too), matchmaking with a ping check, ranked and casual sets, lobbies and match history, and both players need the same version. According to DSOGaming, there are Standard, High and Ultra picture presets, with Ultra aimed at 4K screens, plus options to lower 3D resolution and shadows on weaker GPUs. Version 2.3.4, released October 20, adds Tekken 8-style practice tools: frame data boxes showing startup, on-hit and on-block advantage and whether a move is punishable, an input display, and the game's own move list. In ranked play, if your opponent quits mid-match you now get the win.

Why it matters for handheld players

Every recent Windows handheld, from the ROG Ally and Legion Go to the MSI Claw, has a DirectX 12 GPU, so this is an easy way to get a classic Tekken running locally with modern online play. Lower the resolution preset to keep frame rates steady on battery. The project is Windows-only right now: the README lists no Linux, SteamOS or Android build, so Steam Deck owners shouldn't assume it works. It builds on mahmoud-mess's tekken6-recomp work, and its source code is published at Ekspym/tekken6-native-online-source. Only download it from the project's GitHub releases page, and use a disc you own. We never link to game files.
