ROG XBOX Ally X20 is out: 7.4-inch OLED, Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and a $1,299 price tag

ASUS has put the ROG XBOX Ally X20 on sale, a special edition built to mark 20 years since the Republic of Gamers brand launched in 2006. It costs US$1,299 on its own, or US$2,499 in a bundle with ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case and a Pelican travel case. The regular ROG XBOX Ally ($599) and Ally X ($999) remain on sale alongside it.

Cooling and software

The cooler has been reworked to push air down three paths: behind the OLED panel, across the heatsink fins and onto the processor. The new fans use fewer, larger blades and ASUS claims 20% more airflow, plus 11% more fin area. Armoury Crate SE also picks up Default Game Profile 2.0 (save wattage and power settings to a game in one tap), remappable Command Center, Library and Action buttons, and a Travel Mode that caps charging at 65W for plane and train outlets.

Why it matters for handheld players

The Z2 Extreme is the fastest chip in a Windows handheld right now, and pairing it with an OLED and VRR makes this the most complete Ally yet. It is also an excellent emulation machine for PS3 via RPCS3 and Switch via Eden. The catch is the price: at $1,299 it costs $300 more than the Ally X and well over double a Steam Deck OLED. For most people the standard Ally X is still the value pick, but if you want the best screen and sticks in the Ally family, this is it.
