Retroid Pocket Duo starts shipping October 21: what to know about Retroid's dual-screen clamshell
Retroid has locked in a date for its first full-fat dual-screen handheld. According to the company's community manager on the official Retroid Discord, the original Retroid Pocket Duo begins shipping to customers on October 21, 2026. Pre-orders have been stacking up for a while, so expect the first wave to take a few weeks to clear before newer orders go out.
The Duo is a clamshell Android device in the same mold as the AYN Thor and AYANEO Pocket DS, and it lands right as Anbernic's RG DDS opens for pre-orders. Its headline feature is a pair of 120Hz OLED panels, which is a real step up over the LCDs found on cheaper dual-screen hardware.
Three Duos, one family
The lineup is a little confusing. The Duo Lite is already on sale with LCD screens. A Duo Lite Plus is due in November: it keeps the Lite's design and LCDs but moves to the same Qualcomm Snapdragon Q-7790 chip as the flagship Duo. The original Duo, the one shipping on the 21st, is the model with the OLED screens.
Discount still running
The pre-order coupon code DUO, worth $20 off, has been extended through October 31, so there is still time to grab it if you have been waiting on reviews.
Why it matters for handheld players
Dual screens make the Duo a natural fit for Nintendo DS and 3DS emulation through melonDS and Azahar, and the second display can double as a map, launcher or performance overlay in Android games. Early impressions are mostly positive, though one recurring complaint is that the D-pad sits above the stick, which is awkward for 3DS titles built around the Circle Pad.
