ICO gets a native port for Android phones and handhelds
ICO, Team Ico's 2001 PlayStation 2 game, now has a native port that runs on Android. nathanialf's ico-pc is built on the ICO decompilation and runs the game's own code, so it plays like the PS2 original, with builds for Windows, Linux, the Steam Deck, 64-bit ARM Linux handhelds, Android, iPhone and Apple-silicon Macs.
What you need
- A 64-bit Android device on Android 10 or newer whose graphics support Vulkan 1.2.
- Your own disc image of the European (SCES-50760), Japanese (SCPS-11003) or Korean (SCPS-56001) release, as .iso, .chd or .bin. The American release doesn't work.
- Free space equal to the disc image plus about 1.2 GB for the first start, then about 1 GB.
Setting it up
Download the file ending in -android.apk from the releases page and install it. The first start shows a Preparing graphics screen that can take a few minutes on some phones, then opens a file picker for your disc image. If your stock driver can't run the game, it says so and offers to use a graphics driver package instead, which only helps on Adreno (Snapdragon) devices. Our GPU drivers page lists Turnip builds by chip.
Extras
A sharper picture, widescreen and smoother motion are available but stay off until you turn them on. The developer notes Android can be slower than PC. The newest release, 0.8.1, adds the Korean disc, which has had only limited testing so far.
ICO is now in our Android ports directory. Details come from the project's README, Android guide and release notes on GitHub; Overclocked links to the official releases page only.
